What do I do?

I specialize in substantive editing (as opposed to editing focused on the correction of mechanical or grammatical errors), so if you need a dedicated professional who can work with you to structure and streamline your book or article or provide you with a close line edit to make your prose shine, I can help. Whether your text is business or history, philosophy or self-help, literary theory or creative nonfiction, I have the expertise to ensure that you clearly and gracefully convey your meaning to your intended readership.

What are my qualifications?

I have an MA and PhD in English literature, eight years’ experience working in-house with both academic and trade publishers, and fifteen years’ experience as a freelance copy editor. I have edited more than a hundred full-length books across the social sciences and the humanities, as well as creative nonfiction, and have served as the copy editor for eight journals in various fields. I have also worked extensively with writers for whom English is a second language. Additionally, I am an author in my own right (“Since at Least Plato . . .” and Other Postmodernist Myths [Palgrave Macmillan, 1998]).

Who are my clients?

My primary clients are university presses, universities, and scholars.

“Thank you so much for a world-class editing job on an article that I didn't think (before you got hold of it) needed much editing.”
